MILWAUKEE—Democratic National Committee officials and local business and government leaders clinked beer-filled cups in March 2019 as they announced plans to host the party’s 2020 convention in Milwaukee. But as the event approaches, few local business owners are raising any toasts.
Milwaukee expected a crowd of about 50,000 people to see the party formally select its nominee at the convention this summer. Local tourism officials also projected $200 million in economic activity.
